What’s Trending In Kitchen Remodeling

For quite a while, the ideal kitchen remodel has been the one you see frequently on HGTV: a huge, open concept space with a functional island in the center, and subway tiles accented with thoughtfully selected grout. White, boldly veined quartz countertops have been matched with white cabinetry. And, who can forget all of that open shelving and industrial lighting?

What kitchen remodeling trends will we see going forward?

Using Beautiful Blues In Your Kitchen Remodel

“The blue color family is extremely versatile,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Its varying shades—from light to denim to navy—have calming qualities that induce a sense of comfort at home and feel almost neutral.” We especially love the deep blues and rich blue-greens that pair so beautifully with the new kitchen design trends, like brass hardware and natural wood accents.

Brass Is Back In Kitchen Design

Appearing on cabinet hardware, drawer pulls, faucets, and light fixtures, brass finishes on decorative elements add a touch of shine to your kitchen’s design. And no matter the finish—satin, lacquered, or polished brass—this metal makes a stylish statement. “Brass offers a classic look while still feeling bold and contemporary,” says Amy Biller Switzer, marketing manager at Emtek. The finish blends nicely with most kitchen design styles, but we especially love the look of brass hardware against dark, moody cabinetry or a polished brass faucet that acts as a shiny focal point in a neutral kitchen.

Simple Cabinetry

Shaker cabinets have long been a staple in farmhouse kitchens, but the style continues to diversify. “We are certainly in an age of Shaker-mania,” says Stephanie Pierce, director of design and trends at MasterBrand Cabinets. “They have a broad appeal.” Pierce points to their classic design and simplicity as a reason for their staying power. However, additional Shaker varieties, like those with narrow, medium, and wide rail widths, are also on the rise. Variations of this classic style support the casual contemporary, updated traditional, and modern farmhouse looks that homeowners adore.

Integrated Appliances

Designed to fit flush and coordinate with kitchen cabinetry, integrated appliances, particularly refrigerators and dishwashers, are on the rise, according to industry experts. These options prevent utilitarian appliances from breaking up sightlines and seamlessly disappear into surrounding cabinetry to provide a more cohesive look and luxurious aesthetic. To achieve a seamless look that brings style to the forefront, disguise a refrigerator or dishwasher with custom paneling, or opt to build wall ovens and other appliances into cabinetry for a streamlined effect.

Quartz Countertops Are King

Quartz countertops having been trending for awhile, and they will continue to be strong. Quartz countertops require less upkeep than their natural counterparts. Plus, the shimmering surface is less dominant than alternative materials, so you’re unlikely to grow tired of it. Quartz countertops pair well with both light and dark colored cabinets, making them easy to integrate into any kitchen. And, if you like the look of strongly veined marble, but don’t want the issues, quartz is the best option.

Go Big With The Backsplash

One of the biggest trends in backsplashes is the size. Moving away from subway tiles, many designers are using larger tiles or even slabs of materials like marble or quartz. The result? A smoother, clean look.
